Introductie
Did you notice that notebooks or pc’s that are equiped with Intel Celeron processors or less are very slow with Windows 7? That is why we wrote this manual. A solution for low specification computers. We assume these computers are being used for home use.
In this example we used an Acer Extensa 5210 with a single-core Intel Celeron 1,73 Ghz and 2Gb DDR2 memory. After using this guide the computer will be booted up in about 35 seconds. The windows experience will be very fast. We assume installing Windows is no problem for you. In this guide we will explain how to add an additional language.
Requirements
- Windows 7 “Tiny7 x86 Rev. 01” [Link]
- Vistalizator [Link]
- Microsoft Language Pack (for Windows 7 32bit RTM) [Link]
Step 1.1: Using Vistalizator
Start the (portable) program “Vistalizator” as indicated in the requirements. Vistalizator can add extra languange packs in the “express” way. This is needed because adding language in Tiny7 the usual way (by Windows Update) will fail due to the removal of important components to support this feature. When Vistalizator starts it will show this notification. This notification is given because Tiny7 is based on Windows 7 Ultimate. We just want to continue so we select “yes”.
Step 1.2: Vistalizator add language
We can now add a language pack with the button “add languages”.
Step 1.3: Vistalizator select language pack
The language pack should already be downloaded. Easiest way is through the vistalizator site. For Tiny7 x86 we need a language pack for Windows 7 32-bit RTM. In this example we used this. The .exe file can be used. We select the downloaded language pack with the explorer. After opening Vistalizator will extract the .exe file to .cab.
Step 1.4: Vistalizator select Express mode
After Vistalizator extracts the language pack, the following screen will appear. Very important in this step is to switch from “Internal” to “Express” mode. This can be changed by clicking on the word “Internal”. The “Internal” way is the way Vistalizator will try to install with the internal Windows (Update). We know this way does not work and that is why we select the “Express” way.
Step 1.5: Vistalizator Warning
Vistalizator will give the following warning about the difference between the “Internal” and “Express” mode. As mentioned earlier, the “Internal” mode does not work so we click “OK” for the “Express” mode.
Step 1.6: Vistalizator extracts
After the warning Vistalizator will do her job and copy the necessary languange packs. Normally this takes a few minutes.
Step 1.7: Vistalizator almost done
When Vistalizator finishes installing it will offer to set the new language as default. This is exactly what we want so we select “Yes”. Next there will appear notifications about updates but these are not needed at this point.
Step 1.8: Vistalizator is done
To complete the new adjustments there will be needed to logoff and logon again. At this moment, Vistalizator will probably be the only program running, so we can confirm by clicking “Yes”. Vistalizator will logoff the computer and you should logon again in the welcome screen.
Step 2.1: Windows 7 configuring for Netherlands
First we go to control panel and select “Region and Language”. In the “Formats” tab we select “Dutch (Netherlands)” as format. These are settings for date, time and value notations. Next we can continue to step 2.2 without restarting the computer.
Step 2.2: Configure Location
In the “Location” tab we select “Netherlands” as our current location. After selecting this, it is wise to confirm step 2.1 and 2.2 by pressing “OK” in the right bottom of the screen. After this we will restart the computer for changes to take effect.
Step 3.1: Configure Systemcountry settings
After restarting the computer we go to the control panel again. We select “Land en Taal” now. As you can see the names of the control panel are already adjusted. In step 2.1 it was still called “Region and Language”. In the “Beheer” tab we select “Systeemlandinstelling wijzigen…”.
Stap 3.2: Select Systemcountry settings
Here we select “Nederlands (Nederland)” for the right dutch settings.
Step 3.3: Confirm Systemcountry Settings
As soon as we confirm the systemcountry settings, Windows 7 will ask to restart the computer. This is wise to do so we select “Nu opnieuw opstarten”.
Step 4.1: Copy Settings
After restarting the computer we go to control panel again. For the last time we select “Land en Taal”. In the “Beheer” tab we select “Instellingen kopieëren…”.
Step 4.2: Select Settings
Settings for the current user are correct at this time. Settings of displaylanguage, notation and location for the components “Aanmeldingsscherm” en “Nieuwe gebruikersaccounts” are still English. We want new users to also have the dutch language. We also like to replace for example “Starting Windows” with “Windows starten” when the computer starts.
Stap 4.3: Adjust Settings
At the bottom of this screen we tick the options “Aanmeldingsscherm en systeemaccounts” and “Nieuwe gebruikersaccounts”. We will see that displaylanguage, notation and location for the components “Aanmeldingsscherm” and “Nieuwe gebruikersaccounts” change to “Nederlands (Nederland)” en “Nederland”. The input language will remain “Engels (Verenigde Staten)”. The keyboard layout is named as input language. In Holland, we use United-States layout in 99% of the cases.
Step 4.4: Instellingen bevestigen
Settins are done now. We can restart the computer again to let changes take effect.
Step 5.1: Adjust Timezone
By default, Tiny7 timezone is set to “(UTC +3:00) Moskou, St. Petersburg, Volgograd”. To adjust this to the dutch timezone, we go to the control panel and select “Datum en Tijd”. In “Datum en Tijd” we select the button “Tijdzone wijzigen”.
Step 5.2: Selecting Timezone Netherlands
Change the timezone in the list by selecting “(UTC+1:00) Amsterdam, Berlijn, Bern, Rome, Stockholm, Wenen”.
Step 5.3: Bevestig de Tijdzone
Confirm the right timezone by selecting “OK” te drukken. Time at the bottom right in Windows should be adjusted to the right time now. If it is not, it is wise to sync time under the “Internet tijd” tab.
Congratulations! You now have a complete dutch Windows Tiny7 x86 Rev. 01!
