Windows Tiny7 install from Usb flash drive

Introduction

Tiny7 x86 Rev. 01 is a Windows 7 installation of 700 mb. The creator ‘Experience’ has removed many items from the installation that are not necessary for home use. This results in a super fast Windows environment. With this installation even an old Pentium 4 laptop or desktop will be fast enough for home use!

In this manual we will explain step by step how to install Tiny7 from a USB drive of 1Gb.

Requirements

  • Tiny7 x86 Rev. 01
  • Rufus [link]
  • USB drive of minimal 1Gb

Step 1.1: Copy Iso to USB drive

First we need to copy the downloaded .iso file to an usb drive. It is recommended to check if the target computer is modern enough to boot from usb drive. If the target computer cannot boot from usb, you should burn the .iso to CD or DVD with the free burn program CdBurnerXP.

Connect the USB drive to the computer with the downloaded .iso. After connecting you can start the (portable) tool Rufus. The connected USB drive should be viewed as “Device”. Please double check if you have selected the right USB drive. At the option “Creëer een opstartbare disk met” we select “ISO image”. Then we click on the icon next to it for selecting the right .iso. Other settings are correct by default so we leave those. We can now create the USB drive by hitting “Start”. Normally this 700mb should take about 1 minute to write.

Step 1.2: Boot the computer from USB drive

Now we are going to boot the target computer from the USB drive. If you have an Asus computer you can temperarily change the boot order by pressing F8. Many other brand computers like Acer use F12 or ESC for this. If this does not work, you can try changing the harddisk priority in the bios.

As soon as the computer does start from the USB drive, this screen will be viewed. You should hit any key quite fast to confirm booting from USB drive.

Step 1.3: Windows is loading files…

If booting from the USB drive has succeeded this screen will appear.

Step 1.4: Setup is starting…

As soon as the starting files are loaded correctly, this screen will appear.

Step 1.5: Creating Partitions

Now the partition screen will appear. We advise to remove all old partitions first. (Caution: Do not remove partitions that contain important data!). When all partitions can be safely removed, we can select those partitions and remove them by clicking “Delete”. Ideal would be as viewed here when the entire harddrive is shown as “Unallocated Space”.

Step 1.6: Create New Partitions

Now we are going to create new (clean) partitions by clicking the “New” button. Windows will show the maximum size at “Size:”. In most cases this will be ok. If you also want additional partitions (like D: drive for storage), you should substract the size of the desired extra storage partition at the “Size:” input field.

Step 1.7: Extra System Partition

After confirming step 1.6 with the button “Next”, this notification will appear.

“To ensure that all Windows features work correctly, Windows might create additional partitions for system files.”

This notification needs to be confirmed by clicking “OK”. This indicates that Windows will create a small system partition of 100mb for several boot and system files. When this system partition is cancelled, the computer might not boot properly!

Step 1.8: Partitions Created

When the settings in step 1.7 are confirmed, this screen will appear. De largest partition will be selected. This is the partition on which Windows will be installed after we click “Next”.

Step 1.9: Copying Files

Now this screen will appear. The copying and installing of the Windows components will take about 10 minutes (due to the reduced size of Tiny7!).

Step 1.10: Restarting

After the installing of step 1.9 the computer will restart as this screen shows.
